On-Site Crematorium

While most funeral homes rely on outside vendors for cremation services, Carmon Funeral Home is one of just 3% of Connecticut funeral homes with our own crematory. Back in 1988, Carmon Funeral Home brought online our first crematory within our Windsor Funeral Home location. Ever since, we have operated with integrity and the highest attention to detail.

Along with simplifying the logistics of cremation, an on-site crematorium offers reassurance that once you entrust your loved one in our care, they’re in good hands every step of the way. And during the difficult time of grieving, there is no overestimating the value of a little extra peace of mind.

Our Peace-of-Mind Guarantee

Our certified crematory operators strictly adhere to a rigorous cremation process and documentation. Our Process of Caring for Your Loved One and Our Peace of Mind GUARANTEE to you includes the following ten-step procedure:

  • Upon entering into our care, your loved one will receive a unique identification tag that remains with them through the cremation process.

  • Any personal belongings are recorded and all linens or clothing that we received with your loved one are laundered and returned if requested by your family.

  • Your loved one is then washed and wrapped in clean linens and placed into the cremation container selected by your family and permanently labeled with their name. They are then gently placed into our facility refrigeration unit.

  • A Connecticut State Medical Examiner Investigator visits to view your loved one and review the death certificate before providing our team with a signed cremation authorization.

  • If your family is not present when we receive your loved one, our funeral directors will request you verify your loved one’s identity through private visitation or photo identification.

  • Only after our crematory operator has all required legal documents, a mandatory 48 hour waiting period has elapsed, and both the crematory operator and a funeral director verify your loved one’s identity, confirm no personal effects, jewelry, or pacemaker are present will we proceed with cremation.

  • Your loved one is then removed from our temperature-controlled facility and placed into the crematory chamber. The date, time, crematory operator, funeral director and a your loved one’s unique identification number are all recorded in our cremation records. Duplicate copies of all legal documents are made before they are filed with local authorities as required by law.

  • Once cremation is complete, your loved one’s remains are removed from the chamber and allowed to cool. During this time any foreign objects such as staples or nails from the cremation container are removed.

  • An identification medallion with your loved one’s unique cremation ID number is present throughout cremation, cooling, and processing of remains,. Once the cremated remains are placed into the urn or temporary urn selected by your family this identification medallion is placed inside the urn with the ashes.

  • A label bearing your loved ones name is then affixed to all full-size and keepsake urns and an urn receipt is completed with the name, address, and phone number of the authorized recipient. A burial certificate is given to the family bearing the unique cremation ID number and the signed cremation receipt is retained at Carmon Funeral Homes.
