Robert D. Milkie, 73, beloved husband of Marjorie (Higgins) Milkie of South Windsor, died Sunday (March 6, 2011) at home after brief illness. Born in Hartford on February 4, 1938 son of Nellie (Nolan) Milkie of Waterford and the late Julius A. Milkie, he had lived in South Windsor for the past 64 years. At an early year Bob was smitten with an entrepreneurial spirit, founding restaurants, a bait shop, Admiral Moving and Storage of South Windsor and East Windsor Self-Stor and was always engaged in all of his endeavors. He and his wife, Marge were partners in all that he did and has passed this spirit to their sons. He was a humble and self-made man and will be missed by all who knew him. He was a past member of the Rotary Club of South Windsor, was a Paul Harris Fellow, a New York Yankee fan, a fan of the UConn basketball teams and was a big game fisherman. During his grandchildrens earlier years, he enjoyed attending all of their activities. In addition to his wife of 52 years, Marge and his mother, Nellie he leaves two sons, Mark R. Milkie and his wife, Christine of South Glastonbury and David R. Milkie and his wife, Sherri of Hebron; a brother, James Milkie of South Windsor; two grandchildren, Jennifer Milkie of Cromwell and Derek Milkie of South Glastonbury and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Milkie.
